Skye, Raasay and the Small Isles

"My journey was an awesome round trip taking in the beauty of the Isle of Skye via Lochalsh, and back round via Armadale and Caledonian MacBrayne to Mallaig. Most staggering was the trek from Elgol to Sligachan, with the wild landscape of the Cuillin and Loch Coruisk the Experience of a life-time!  You could walk the world but in no other location can such untamed beauty be seen anywhere."

"It was August 2006 our honey moon, we got married in Oban then took a long magical drive to Skye Via Mallaig to board the ferry across to Skye. We arrive on the Isle of Skye around about 8.00pm just as the sun is setting over the lochs is a breath taking experience. We stay at a guest house which stands alone with just sheep and wildlife for neighbours. Who could ask for more peace and tranquillity as our first day as a married couple."

The next day we take the ferry over to Raasay, where panoramic views can be absorbed for many hours. We also enjoyed visiting the ex-home of Donavon the folk singer, we have many photographs of these wonderful memories, and we shall return for many years too come."

 Mrs J Lee-Mills, West Midlands

"We went to the Western Isles for the first time in 1968 and have never stopped going back! My favourite memory(so far!)is of the Coral Beach up past Dunvegan on Skye. We spent an idyllic day there with my small daughter, picnicking, paddling, playing in the sunshine and eventually watching the sun set as it turned the white beach and still-warm waters to molten gold. Then we set off back to our holiday home in Broadford with buckets full of shells and coral and hearts full of beautiful memories - and we've still got both! Truly a memory to treasure."

Mrs J Diack, Aberdeenshire.

"My first Island experience was Skye and the hiking was spectacular. More recently I made a trip to see my property at Laphroig and to take in the peaty environment of Islay! What a beautiful island - so easy to get around and so full of the history of whiskey making - great distillery tours and great photo opportunities!"

Mr J Foulds, Canada.

"My favourite experience was travelling to the Isle of Rum in autumn last year. Rum offers folk the most wonderful opportunities for walking - both gentle and difficult, both seaside and mountainside! Wonderful place to visit!"

Miss L Hine, Glasgow.

"I was writing a novel and had writer's block. My friend recommended the Isle of Skye, to which at first I thought from London seemed a million miles away and my mind was full of completed rubbish! But I did go and it was breathtakingly beautiful, wild, adventurous, friendly and full of delightful quirks from people and places. I loved it, joyous, and yes, I did come back refreshed and alive and completed my novel!"

Mr M Russell, Hampshire.

"Whenever I'd met other people travelling and said I was Scottish they always said they'd been to Skye, where I hadn't yet. So a few friends and I went up and happened upon the most incredible heat wave all week as we travelled round the island. Swimming in a rock pool halfway down from a Cuillin, was the most exhilarating experience. It's true what they say; when the weather's good there's no better place to be!"
