Accessibility Standards and Compatibility

This accessibility statement applies to calmac.co.uk website

CalMac Accessibility Statement

Using this website 

This website is run by CalMac. It has been tested using Chrome, Firefox and Safari (on mobile). It is not optimised for Internet Explorer.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to: 

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts 

  • navigate all of the website using just a keyboard 

  • navigate all of the website using speech recognition software 

  • listen to all of the website using a screen reader (using the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver) 

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. We are currently progressing towards WCAG standards for our online booking platform and this, along with this statement, will be updated in due course.

Technical information about this website's accessibility 

CalMac is committed to making this website accessible. 

This website is compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, apart from: 

  • Autocomplete missing from form fields (WCAG: 1.3.5 (AA) due to technical limitations. 

  • Some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

How we tested this website 

A WCAG audit was carried out and a recheck completed on the 9th  December 2020. The test was carried out by the RNIB on a representative sample of pages. 

 

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations'). If you're not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Contacting us by phone or visiting us in person

We provide a text relay service for people who are D/deaf, hearing impaired or have a speech impediment.

Our offices have audio induction loops, or if you contact us before your visit we can arrange a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Access Keys

Shortcut access keys will be provided to allow fast access to the Homepage and to skip over the navigation at the top of the page. The following keys are defined:

- '1' = Home page

- 's' = Skip navigation (inbuilt functionality)

To use these keys

For a Windows-based platform:

If the browser is Internet Explorer, press and hold down the 'Alt' key and press the assigned key on the keyboard and press the 'enter' key to navigate to a page. For all other browsers just press and hold down the 'Alt' key and press the assigned key.

For a Macintosh based platform:

Press and hold down the left-hand 'Control' and press the assigned key on the keyboard (e.g. Control-1 navigates to the home page).

PDF documents
