Dannsairean an Eilein Sgitheanaich (DAES)

Dannsairean an Eilein Sgitheanaich (DAES)

AMOUNT AWARDED: £974.00

The submission:

DAES is a Highland Dancing School which is now in its tenth year of providing dance tuition to young people in Skye. This project would bring 20 of our dancers to a competition run by the MacKinnon School of Highland Dancing in Stornoway, the MacKinnon Festival. It would include primary dancers from the age of five up to premier dancers aged fourteen. Opportunities to perform and compete as a Highland Dancer are limited on Skye. Relatively few dancers' families are able to commit to the travel and expense of attending competitions in the Western Isles, Highland Region or beyond on a regular basis. .

Why were they chosen?

This trip to the MacKinnon Festival makes such an opportunity more accessible to everyone. For younger dancers one of the main objectives is to increase their confidence and self belief. It will hopefully inspire them to commit to Highland Dancing on a long term basis with all the benefits it brings.
