Swim Western Isles
Swim Western Isles is a sports club that makes use of the main swimming pool in Stornoway to train children from 8 years old to 18 years old. It is run by volunteers and currently has 77 swimmers.
Their project will allow us to prepare young people for competitive swimming on the mainland by familiarising themselves with the starting equipment which is standard at all swimming meets throughout the country. Such training blocks are not available anywhere in the islands. Diving and starts are crucial to our swimmers where literally milliseconds count in their races.
CalMac's support creates a lasting legacy for the enhanced training of young swimmers over the next decade.
