Mull Aquarium

Situated in the iconic town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, Mull Aquarium is part of Tobermory Harbour Association, a unique and instrumental community enterprise company, responsible for the protection and development of Tobermory Bay and it's environs on behalf of the community.

Mull Aquarium has a drive to inspire and motivate the next generation of scientists by fostering their natural curiosity. With 2020 being the year of Coast and Water they want to encourage a deeper understanding of the coastline and marine life that surrounds Tobermory in a fun and interactive way, as well as inspiring action towards local and national conservation.

This project aims to benefit every child who lives in their rural, isolated island community, where opportunities for extracurricular education are limited, offering them a unique learning experience. Children will increase their knowledge of the wider natural world and the marine environment on their doorstep, through a variety of STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) sessions designed and implemented using the extensive knowledge and expertise of the aquarium staff.

As well as developing skills in science this project will develop valuable life skills, through providing a real, hands-on experience of being a marine and coastal scientist. Students will develop their skills in creativity, teamwork, leadership and time management, as well as improving self-esteem for some children.
