Your late summer getaway is now boarding

Girls running over bridge at Benmore Gardens

Few places offer an unforgettable last minute summer break like Scotland's islands. You can feel like you're a world away in as little as twenty minutes, and it could be for as little as £5 return.

Gigha

In just twenty minutes from the Kintyre peninsula, you could land on the beautiful island of Gigha. As soon as you disembark from the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry you will feel like you're a world away. Gigha is famous for its white sandy bays, perfectly represented with its unique twin beaches. Maybe a jaunt to Achamore gardens? Rounded off with some fresh seafood from the beautiful turquoise waters.

Tiree

Set sail for a look-a-like tropical paradise on the isle of Tiree. Relax on the island's white sands, while you survey the endless beauty and power of the Atlantic Ocean before you. Behind you, the marram grass will whistle in the breeze. It's a peaceful and beautiful picture, isn't it? Tiree has some of the best weather you can find in the whole of the UK, thanks to the gulf stream.

If you're looking for fun for all the family - plan a trip with a local wildlife tour for a chance to spot dolphins and basking sharks. Or fancy learning to surf? If it's good enough for the best surfers in the UK, then it's good enough for your crew too - and this is the place to try.

Raasay

Just twenty minutes off the coast of its larger and perhaps better-known neighbour, Skye - Raasay is more of a hidden gem. Perfect for history lovers. Hike your way up to Dun Caan peak - the flat-topped hill that watches over the island. Enjoy beautiful views over to Applecross and beyond and the majestic Cuillin on Skye. Explore the ruins of Brochel castle, the powerhouse of the Macleod's until the 17th century, allegedly destroyed as a penalty for fighting at Culloden in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

The castle sits at the foot of Calum's road - a story that sums up the island perfectly. The road was hand built by Calum MacLeod of Skye, with a pick and shovel. A labour of love, which he put in place so his family could more easily visit the island, and the people they loved.

Harris and Lewis

Set sail from Skye, for a trip to Harris and Lewis - the perfect road trip duo. You'll drive through the last few thousand years of history - from the black house villages at Arnol and Gearrannan, to the Norse Mill and Kiln at Shawbost. Few other places can offer such a trip. Stop by the Callanish standing stones - older than those at Stonehenge, dating back to 3000BC.  Dun Carloway Broch from the Iron age is one of the best preserved in the country - not to be missed.

As you travel, you'll be able to enjoy the wild coastline - from some of the best beaches in Europe if not the world, to the bold and breathtaking cliffs, with the wild Atlantic below.
