What information do I need to know when travelling on the Claonaig - Lochranza service?
We have an alternative crossing to/from Arran via our non-bookable Claonaig - Lochranza service. For those new to the route, we've shared some useful information to be aware of, below.
This route is a Turn Up and Go service and operates on a first come first served basis. Find out more about our Turn Up and Go routes.
Travelling to Claonaig
Directions to the mainland port at Claonaig can be found using the postcode PA29 6YG.
Please note the route to Claonaig includes some portions which are single track, with passing places (B8024 and B8001). Claonaig is a small unmanned port with limited facilities available. Toilets are available but there is no shop or retail outlet to purchase water, snacks, etc.
If you are planning to travel via this crossing from Ardrossan, please plan ahead and come prepared with any food/drink required as the drive can take over 3 hours. The last petrol station can be found in Lochgilphead and last shop can be found in Tarbert (Loch Fyne) before you reach Claonaig.
There is a limited bus service operated by West Coast Motors between Claonaig Ferry and Lochgilphead. View timetable.
Due to the location of this port, and limited transport connections for foot passengers, this route is more suited for passengers travelling in their own vehicle.
