Lochboisdale is the gateway to unforgettable South Uist, an island with a unique identity amongst the Outer Hebrides – split between rugged hills and perfect beaches. Our route connects the island with Mallaig on the mainland.

Key Information

  • This is a bookable route. We advise you to book and reserve your preferred sailing in advance. We’re also keen to remind you that there’s multiple alternative routes to South Uist if your preferred date and time of departure via Oban between Sunday 23 March to Tuesday 8 April and Wednesday 23 April to Tuesday 13 May is not available on this route – please see below.
  • Alternative routes to South Uist – you can also travel to South Uist by travelling via Oban - Castlebay then Ardmhor (Barra) to Eriskay or travel from Uig (Skye) to Lochmaddy (North Uist), or via Stornoway (Lewis) or Tarbert (Harris).   • If you arrive at the port without a reservation we may still be able to carry you. Please proceed to the ticket office.
  • Pre-booking of vehicles is strongly recommended.
  • Crossing Time: 3 hours 30 minutes to Mallaig and 5 hours 30 minutes to Oban.
  • Operates all year round.

Check in process

Vehicles

  • Please arrive at least 45 minutes before departure.
  • Customers should show their ticket to the car park marshals on arrival.
  • If you arrive earlier than the stated check in time please do not join the boarding lanes.
  • If the check-in booth is not manned please follow signs - terminal staff will check you in.
  • If you miss your booked sailing, or the size of your vehicle differs from that declared, you may have to pay an additional fee.
  • We reserve the right to amend your booking appropriately on arrival.

  • Fill up for your Hebridean adventure at the local petrol station, ¼ of a mile away at MacAulay’s Garage.
  • Make sure you have plenty of cash for those island souvenirs, the nearest cash machine is 300 metres from the port
  • There is no local shop the nearest is in Daliburgh 3.1 miles away
