Mount Stuart

A little bit of everything in a large estate

A remarkable neo-gothic mansion. Built in the 19th Century, Mount Stuart is a feat of Victorian engineering and was one of the most technologically advanced houses of its age. It was an impressive house of firsts - the first house with a heated indoor swimming pool. Mount Stuart was the first house in Scotland to be purpose built with electricity as many homes had been converted to electric light prior to 1880.Testament to the engineers involved in the construction of the house - all of these features are still working today. It boasts impressive architecture, lavish interiors, local heritage, extensive gardens, regional produce and hand-made gifts. Don't miss the café, either, where the chefs use as much produce from the kitchen garden as they can.
