Easily accessible from the mainland, the Isle of Cumbrae has been a popular holiday destination for short stays and day trips by the seaside. The island holds a sense of nostalgia for many, with holidaymakers from Glasgow and the surrounding areas visiting Cumbrae for their summer holidays “doon the watter” over the years.
Before the era of mass air travel, the Victorians created a network of resorts a little closer to home. Frequented by travellers of all classes, these destinations became the place to be seen during the summer months, with the architecture to befit their grand usage. Cumbrae’s town, Millport has evolved into the modern era while still retaining the splendor that drew crowds all those years ago.
Cumbrae is an adventure playground for children, with plenty of activities to keep them entertained.
