Apart from the bustling seabird population on the island's basalt cliffs, Canna is best known as a peaceful retreat. The island is owned by the National Trust, and Canna House has an excellent archive of Gaelic materials. There are puffins and eagles, and the eatery Cafe Canna in the bay serves good local food with great views.

How to get here
The Canna ferry leaves from Mallaig, and stops off at the other Small Isles.
Get the ferry to Canna from Mallaig on the mainland. You must make an online booking for passengers and also if you're bringing your bike, please add your bike(s) to your booking, and then contact the Mallaig port office directly to check that space is available. This ticket will remain free of charge. If you are taking a vehicle you must have a permit to travel ( see timetable for more information) and contact the Mallaig Office directly.
If you are planning to travel on a day trip to Canna or one of the Small Isles - our timetable will guide you on what is possible. Due to the nature of the service, the timetable changes every day, and you'll need to factor this into your choice and plans as it may not always be possible to travel to and from your chosen island in one day. Non landing cruise tickets are not available. Customers will need to disembark and cannot stay on board.

Getting to Mallaig
Mallaig is a port on the North West coast, and makes a great base for your adventures on the Isles.
By car
Mallaig is roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes from Glasgow, 4 hours from Edinburgh by car. There are no electric vehicle charging points on the Small Isles however three rapid charging points are available in Mallaig at the West Bay Car Park, approximately 300m from the Terminal Building.

Travelling without a car
By train
From Glasgow it is possible to catch the train direct to Mallaig, on one of the World's most beautiful train journeys. The fastest train takes 5 hours 14 minutes and includes a crossing on the famous Glenfinnan viaduct which featured in the Harry Potter films.
By bus
Mallaig is easily reached by bus from Glasgow with a change in Fort William.
By foot
The Isle of Canna is the most westerly of the Small Isles archipelago among the Scottish Inner Hebrides. It's only 4.3 miles long and 1 mile wide, but is a haven for wildlife that includes rare butterfly species and the magnificent sea eagle. For budding hillwalkers, the top of Compass Hill offers beautiful views of both Skye's Cuillin Hills, and the Western Isles - the last outpost before North Atlantic.
By bike
Canna has 6.5 km of flat roads that offer magnificent views of the Isle of Rum with the island of Sanday in the foreground. It is possible to access the island of Sanday by means of a small bridge connecting the two islands.
