Chair of new Community Board appointed

Lewis businessman, Angus Campbell, has been appointed Chair of CalMac's new independent Community Board that will look at strategic issues up and down the west coast.

The Board will be the voice of the communities and its creation was part of CalMac's successful bid to operate west coast ferry services for the next eight years, along with the appointment of Brian Fulton as Director of Community and Stakeholder Engagement.

'Securing the right chair is a key milestone in the development of the community board and, with Angus' assistance, will now look to appoint 12 board members. We have been delighted by the calibre of applications for both the chair and board memberships and are on track to have everything in place for the first board meeting in October,' said Brian

It will comprise 12 members plus an independent, paid, chair. It will be completely separate from the company with CalMac only providing secretariat services, it will not have any representative sitting on it.

Angus, who has also previously led Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said: 'I am delighted to be given the opportunity to chair the new community board. This initiative will enhance communication between the company and the communities it serves and will bring wider benefits to all. I look forward to working with the new board members to ensure we reach into all parts of our geography and all areas of interest to our communities.'
