Mainland transport connections

Mainland transport connections

In this section, you'll find information on mainland transport connections, and alternative transport arrangements, for customers affected by the Port Askaig closure (19 June - 30 July 2024).

  • Citylink bus connections to/from Kennacraig

  • Transport links to/from Oban on Wednesdays

Citylink bus connections to/from Kennacraig

We've planned our amended timetables to ensure that connection opportunities with Scottish Citylink coach services are largely unaffected.

Daily connections remain available from Kennacraig to either Glasgow or Campbeltown, and to Kennacraig from Glasgow or Campbeltown.

As always, customers using connecting bus services to Kennacraig are advised to make themselves known to the bus driver to allow them to inform the Port Office of expected passenger numbers.

Transport links to/from Oban on Wednesdays

In order to provide a balanced spread of services to both the Islay and Colonsay communities, the amended timetable during the closure period will maintain the Islay-Colonsay-Oban link on Saturdays.

However, unfortunately, the Islay-Colonsay-Oban link will not operate on Wednesdays during the closure period, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Customers who normally use the Islay-Colonsay-Oban link to travel to/from Oban on Wednesdays, will instead by required to travel on a sailing to/from Kennacraig, and between Kennacraig and Oban by road.

If you normally travel to/from Oban on Wednesdays and are affected by this temporary change, we can assist you with a port-to-port taxi service between Kennacraig and Oban ferry terminals, to ensure you are not financially impacted.

This port-to-port taxi service is available by request only, and must be booked before 12:00 (midday) on the day prior to your journey*.

To book, please contact:

Available Monday - Sunday 08:00 - 17:00

or

Available Monday - Saturday 06:00 - 18:00, Sunday 09:00 - 18:00

*If you have accessibility requirements in using the port-to-port taxi service, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance of your journey, so that we can provide as much assistance as we can.

Fare equalisation has been referred to Transport Scotland and is being reviewed by them - should there be any updates, we will publish further details to support our customers.
