Hampshire harbour contract bedding in

Solent Gateway Ltd (SGL), a new joint venture between CalMac's parent company David MacBrayne and logistics experts GBA has seamlessly taken over the running of Marchwood Military Port in Hampshire from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

SGL took over the management contract for Marchwood last December after a successful tendering process in which it beat off competition from a range of large private sector port operators.

The first six months of the contract have seen SGL successfully maintain a safe and effective performance at the port to the satisfaction of all MoD requirements. Over the longer term SGL is also exploring the potential for a variety of commercial opportunities at the port.

The contract has been awarded for 35 years and David MacBrayne sees this as a great opportunity to demonstrate expertise and experience to a global market.
