New MA makes CalMac a leading UK trainer
The launch of a new hospitality Modern Apprenticeship (MA) has elevated CalMac to one of the UK's leading maritime training providers.
The MA in Hospitality with Maritime Enhancements is the first of its kind and will complement the company's two other MAs in Deck and Engineering skills.
According to the Merchant Navy Training Board CalMac is now among the top five training providers in the UK for maritime apprenticeship.
Under a new agreement with the City of Glasgow College, all of the classroom elements of all three of CalMac's modern apprenticeships will now be delivered in Scotland. Previously, the nearest college for the specialist maritime elements was in South Shields on Tyneside.
CalMac's Director of Human Resources, Christine Roberts said:
'As part of our winning bid to run the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Service contract we committed to increasing the numbers of Modern Apprentices we employ and this new relationship with the College will be an important step towards helping us achieve this.'
