Uig Harbour closure January 2023 - final details
CalMac customers are being reminded of service arrangements when Uig Harbour is closed between 16 January 2023 - 13 March 2023 by The Highland Council for planned upgrades.
This first phase of planned work will mean that regular services to and from Uig from Lochmaddy and Tarbert will be suspended. Passengers will be diverted via alternative routes via Stornoway-Ullapool or Lochboisdale-Mallaig-Oban.
Key points about the closure are here:
- MV Hebrides will operate a daily return Ullapool-Lochmaddy (extended passage time of 4h 30m).
- MV Loch Seaforth (Stornoway-Ullapool) will run to an amended timetable, with adjusted timings to allow MV Hebrides (Lochmaddy-Ullapool) to access Ullapool.
- No service will be provided to Tarbert. Tarbert traffic will be redirected to Ullapool - Stornoway service (capacity volumes have been assessed and it is expected sufficient capacity will be available).
- No service will be provided to Tarbert. Tarbert traffic will be redirected to Ullapool - Stornoway service (capacity volumes have been assessed and it is expected sufficient capacity will be available).
- Chartering of MV Arrow to provide freight resilience between Stornoway - Ullapool.
- An additional daily sailing between Berneray - Leverburgh provided between 16 January - 4 February 2023.
MV Lord of the Isles will continue to operate the enhanced summer Lochboisdale - Oban/Mallaig service levels within the winter timetable for the duration of the closure period.
Shuttle buses will be available to transport passengers between Tarbert - Stornoway and Uig - Ullapool and FAQs will be published on our dedicated webpage to guide customers on times, route and how to book.
Customers who would normally travel Tarbert/Lochmaddy - Uig, but are diverted to Stornoway-Ullapool, or Lochboisdale-Oban/Mallaig will be eligible for a refund for the difference in ticket price.
Customers who would normally travel Lochmaddy-Uig, and who were subsequently diverted from Lochmaddy-Ullapool to Lochboisdale-Mallaig/Oban will also be eligible for a refund for the difference in ticket price.
A form will be available on our dedicated webpage from 16 January 2023 for eligible customers to complete.
Any customers travelling Lochmaddy-Ullapool instead of Lochmaddy-Uig will be paying the same fare as their normal route so are not required to complete this form.
Robbie Drummond, Chief Executive of CalMac, said: "The closure of Uig harbour means that we have had to find the best alternative options for our customers, and we have tried to keep disruption to a minimum for them.
We will be building on communications already in place to remind passengers about the closure and support them with the information they may need."
