Marine Biodiversity Monitoring

CalMac Ferries Ltd run a regular timetabled ferry service across the west coast of Scotland which provides an ideal transect for the monitoring of marine biodiversity.  The Clyde and Hebrides regions are some of the UKs most biologically diverse waters however biodiversity monitoring from large vessels has not historically been undertaken in this area.  The CalMac Ferries Marine Awareness Programme will run a series of biodiversity surveys on an annual basis to gather standardised data using trained volunteers.  All data gathered during the Programme will be supplied freely to all partners and an annual summary report will be produced and published.
